 Cosmetic surgery is performed on normal face or body features aiming to improve one's aesthetic appearance and enhance self-confidence.
In 2006, nearly 11.000.000 cosmetic surgery operations were performed in the USA, raising the number of operations performed since the beginning of the century by 50%.
In 2007, the number of operations performed reached 12.000.000. The most popular procedures included breast augmentation, liposuction, rhinoplasty (nose surgery), blepharoplasty (eye lid surgery) and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).

Reconstructive surgery is performed on distorted face or body features attributed to congenital abnormalities, traumas, burns, tumors or diseases and aims to improve physical functions as well as appearance.
